Anabelle is a nice little girl of 6 (and one quarter!), who is just a teensy bit spoiled by her hardworking Mom and Dad. She and her parents live in an apartment in the city and when her folks get promotions that keep them late at work, they decide to bring Anabelle’s grandmother, Nona, to live with them to help take care of her.
But Anabelle hates this idea! She doesn’t really know her
grandmother and she will have to give up her playroom to make room for her! That’s bad. Real Bad!
But when Nona arrives, Anabelle soon learns to love her and they spend their days baking cookies, playing games and watching the Today show together! Anabelle doesn’t know how she’d ever lived without her dear Nona! That’s good. Real good!
But then Covid-19 pandemic hits, and Anabelle reluctantly has to learn how to wear a mask, wash her hands often, disinfect and social distance from her friends and neighbors. Her parents also explain about the importance of vaccinations to keep themselves and others safer.
Boy, does she hate Covid! But having her parents and Nona at home all day makes it all much better and Anabelle gradually gets used to living a different, but safer way of life.
Until the fateful day that Nona accidentally forgets her mask when she goes out to pick up their mail – and comes down with Covid…
And tragically passes away.
This important tale takes young Anabelle gently and compassionately though the loss of her beloved Nona in a sensitive and healing way that is designed to help other children learn how to cope with Covid and recover from the unforeseen losses it might bring to their young and vulnerable lives.
